2nd Seminar in Dolina, Italy

Women, politics and media

Seminar Women, Politics and Media takes place from December 3rd to December 6th 2015, in Dolina, Italy. It includes: analysis of the gender sensitivity in the politics and media and at the decision-making process; deconstruction of political and media gender-based stereotyping in the participating countries.

This activity lasts for 3 days. First day in the afternoon opens with team building; then each partner presents state of policy in the thematic area in their country, followed by discussion. Second day starts with team building, followed by field visit and plenary discussion on European policy issues. In the evening, there is intercultural learning session. Third day is all-day workshop for making photo-journalistic reportage and presentation in public. Fourth day is for Evaluation and Departure. After activity each partner is obliged to prepare one case study in the form of photo-reportage.

This is the second seminar within the project WONET and it was realized from 3rd till 6th of December in Cultural Centre France Prešeren in Boljunec, village in the Municipality of San Dorligo, Italy. San Dorligo della Vale is the beautiful small municipality on the very border with Slovenia, near Trieste. The most of the population are Slovenians. The part of the municipality is the Val Rosandra Regional Nature Reserve.

The seminar topic was “Women, politics and media”. There were 35 participants from four countries: Croatia, Italy, Slovenia and Serbia.

During the first day of seminar, there was presented photo exhibition made by participants as a part of a preparatory work. Exhibition showed women participation in politics, women activism, how media presents women and gender roles. It was followed by experts lecture about women and politics, which included debate about women quotes in politics. During the lecture there was presented data in global level and after that, participants presented data from the participated countries. During the intercultural evening, participants presented kitchen of their countries. They were welcomed by the President of the Municipality of San Dorligo, Mr. Sandy Klun.

The next day there were organized study visits to regional centre RAI in Trieste (Radiotelevisione Italiana) and daily newspapers “Primorski dnevnik“ in Trieste. During the visits participants were introduced with a work of these media and their programmes; the special attention was payed to the topic of women: presence of women in TV programmes and articles, the number of women employees, position of women employees, etc. During these two visits, the participants made two short photo reportages which represent participants’ impressions of visits. After that, there was realized walk through the City of Trieste, with an aim to make photos of Trieste in women’s point of view.

In the afternoon there was held an experts lecture on the topic of women and media. Within the exercise on the topic of representation of women in media, or advisable representation of women in media, participants presented their attitudes toward the media picture of women through advertising, anti-advertising and campaigns. About ways of presentation of women in media there were speaking participants from each participating country. The day was finished with a fair of participants’ organizations. Within the fair participants promoted their organizations and got familiar with aims and activities of another organizations, with an aim to build a network of organizations for future projects cooperation.

At the biginning of the third day of seminar, there was held an experts lecture on the topic of the concept of photoreportage, in order to give instructions for the preparation of photoreportages for the final exhibition. After the lecture, groups of participants prepared and presented their four photoreportages from study visits and walk through Trieste. It was followed by choosing of topics and making concepts for five photoreportages for the final exhibition.

During the last day of the seminar, participants made a plan for making those five photoreportages after the seminar. It is planned to have five finished photoreportages on the topic of women, politics and media within the two months after the end of seminar. At the end, the evaluation was done and sertificates of attendance were given to all the participants.

During the whole seminar moderators implemented a plenty of team building exercises, in order to make coherent team and to empower the women’s solidarity.

Representatives of the Municipality of Savski venac, the City of Belgrade, Mr. Nemanja Petrovic, President assistent, and Mr. Bojan Milosavljevic, the Coordinator of the Project WONET, met the President of San Dorligo, Mr. Sandy Klun, the Vicepresident of the Municipality, Mr. Goran Cuk, and the Coordinator of EU projects, Mr. Mitja Lovriha. Guests were provided with the information about the work of municipal administration, aimed to strenght institutions’ future cooperation on european projects, especially in topics of social policies, culture, sport and tourism.
