1st Seminar in Belgrade, Serbia

Seminar Women and Education takes place from October 22nd to October 25th 2015. in Belgrade, Serbia. It includes: analysis of quality and quantity of women education; deconstruction of gender matrix built by education system; connecting education with women social position and highlighting of women social education for sustainable future.

This activity lasts for 3 days. First day in the afternoon opens with team building; then each partner presents state of policy in the thematic area in their country, followed by discussion. Second day starts with team building, followed by field visit and plenary discussion on European policy issues. In the evening, there is intercultural learning session. Third day is all-day workshop for making photo-journalistic reportage and presentation in public. Fourth day is for Evaluation and Departure. After activity each partner is obliged to prepare one case study in the form of photo-reportage.

This seminar represents the first activity within the project WONET. “Women and Education” seminar was realized from 22nd to 25th of October, in Belgrade, in Boatel CHARLE, located on the Danube, near the Sava’s confluence in Danube. 35 participants from Croatia, Italy, Slovenia and Serbia participated the seminar.

The seminar was moderated by association CESI from Zagreb, Association Light from Sabac, and the City Municipality of Savski venac, the project applicant.

The opening speech was done by the Mayor of the Municipality of Savski venac. After his speech, Bojan Milosavljevic, the Coordinator of the project, presented the concept of the project WONET and programme Europe for Citizens. During the first day of seminar was held the presentation of data about education of women concerning the all participated countries, and statistics in European Union level. During the lecture was shortly presented the history of education of women in region and contemporary problems of education regarding to gender socialization. The day was finished with an intercultural evening, within participants presented their national kitchens.

On the second day of seminar participants, splitted in three groups, visited Women’s Studies Center, Teacher Education Faculty and Gimnazium “Sveti Sava“. During these study visits were held discussions about gender sensitive education and problems of its implementation in the system of formal and non-formal education. Participants made photoreportages about the visits and presented them on the third day of seminar. During the afternoon participants visited the photo exhibition of Belgrade’s photojournalists 1930-41, entitled “The mirror of History“, in the Belgrade City Museum. Photographs of Svetozar Grdijan illustrate social life of Belgrade between two world wars. The exhibition is divided into several thematic units: Royal family, Politics, Events, Society, the City and Sport. After the visit participants went to photo walk through the city and made several photoreportages from their point of view. At the end of a day, participants presented their organizations, mostly through exchange of publications about previous organizations’ projects.

The third day of seminar started with an experts lecture about photoreportage. Participants got familiar with different techniques of expression through photoreportage, and with planned concept of final exhibition of photoreportages, which opening is planned for final conference in Belgrade. Special attention is paid to political articulation of participants’ attitudes. After the lecture, participants, splitted into groups, chose a topic and sketched a concept of photoreportages, which would prepare in groups after the seminar.

On the fourth working day, group of participants made an action plan for preparation and reporting about photoreportages. The evaluation was done, sertificates of attendance were awarded, the seminar is officially closed, and group photo was made.

During the whole seminar, moderators implemented a plenty of team building activities, with an aim to make a coherent team and to build women’s solidarity.

During the seminar, the delegation from the Municipality of San Dorligo della Valle, Mr. Sandy Klun, the Mayor, Mr. Goran Cuk, the Vicepresident of the Municipality, and Mr. Mitja Lovrih, the coordinator of EU projects, met Mr. Dusan Dincic, the Mayor of the Municipality of Savski venac, Mrs. Jasmina Djokic and Mr. Nemanja Petrovic, assistants to the Mayor, and Mr. Bojan Milosavljevic, the Coordinator of the project WONET, in order to get familiar with the work of the Municipality Administration and with a species of the local community and history. Besides that, topics of the meeting were cooperation in different levels including cooperation on further EU projects.
